ASHVIN PROJECT PRESENTED AT SUSTAINABLE PLACES CONFERENCE 2022

ASHVIN participated in the Sustainable Places Conference 2022 that took place in Nice, France between the 6th and 8th September 2022. Our project was presented at the workshop titled “Ontologies in Digital Twin: Methodology, Lessons Learned and Practical Approach”, which was co-organized by the Building Digital Twin Association (BDTA) and 6 EU-funded projects that develop a construction-phase digital-twin data model, and their ontological representation, capable of capturing all data requirements for the digital representation of building and/or infrastructure construction sites.

Rahul Tomar, representative of consortium partner Digital Twin Technology, Germany, walked the audience through the goals and purpose of ASHVIN, along with the methodology and technologies to achieve these with a presentation regarding a published paper: “Platology: A DT Ontology Suite for the Complete Lifecycle of Infrastructure”.

This paper introduces a systemization of core concepts to aid development of digital twins for an infrastructure project through its lifecycle, starting from a concrete need of formal representations of concepts and relations. In fact, the linkage between objects existing in the physical world (construction (sub-) products, the environment, construction machinery) and their virtual replicas and simulations for a DT is vital. The knowledge systemization of this aspect has not been widely explored. Hence, the motivation for the proposed ontology is to contribute towards a common understanding of the dimensions of the construction digital twins. The audience was then given a brief explanation of the research work process defining the aim of the ontology to aid the ASHVIN DT platform and its specific tools covering all the phases of an infrastructure’s lifecycle.

Sustainable Places prides itself on being an ideal platform for the dissemination of research, the conduct of workshops, EU project clustering and networking between stakeholders of all types and the #ASHVIN project is very proud of having participated in its 10th annual edition hosted in Nice, France.
